Career “Brand” – What does it mean?

As a result, we at Bright Sparks Coaching (Cambridge) believe that by focusing on a career in terms of a personal brand* and by taking the lead from consumer psychology, you can create your own personal and distinct career brand that will focus & motivate your career planning. Just as the big brands such as Nike, Google, Apple, and Microsoft for example.

So What Makes a Strong Career Brand?

Let’s start by asking ourselves five searching Career Brand questions:

  1. Does your network (or do your customers) know you are out there(Visibility)
  2. What do you do better than anyone else? What makes you a “go-to person” in your field? (Uniqueness)
  3. Do people see you as being authentic, genuine, and more importantly, believable? (Credibility)
  4. What are the benefits of recruiting you or doing business with you?  (Value & Relevance)
  5. Do clients feel a connection with you or your services? (Emotional Connection)

By using and evaluating yourself against these questions as a set of criteria, we can gauge how strong your distinct Career Brand is.

So how does the Programme work?

We will work to identify the four phases that can be utilised to build your career brand:

1. Examine your distinct brand attributes & strengths

Understand your strengths, special skills, passions, and talents and how they can be used in your business and employment market. What differentiates you from your competition for a role or contract, what makes you so unique? From this information, we can develop your “Career Brand Profile”. We will work toward identifying the key attributes that differentiate you from the competition.

2. Develop your brand and begin to build your brand platform

Based on the results from the Career Brand Profile and a Career Inventory, we develop the key attributes that are your strongest, most credible, and most well-differentiated personal attributes for employment or client engagement. Your key attributes, strengths values, etc that have the greatest potential for producing benefits for your target customers or potential employers? What is your message for potential employers and clients – what’s your tagline or mission statement?

3. Deploying your Career Brand

Let people know you exist, after all, you do not want to be the world’s best-kept secret. We will create a communication strategy for your brand message to clarify and create a consistent message about you and your value to employers or prospective clients. Start to view your brand platform as the launching pad for your brand message and a compelling story to tell the world about.

4. Learn to maintain your Career Brand

We will get you into the habit of monitoring and maintaining your brand and performing the continual maintenance necessary to help you focus on the many dimensions of your career brand.

As a result, we will ensure that you continually develop your strengths, think and act upon the value you offer others, and maintain vibrant and authentic visibility for your brilliant new career.
